Juan AlMARAZ
Flautist and educator with a career marked by versatility between the classical world and traditional root music, especially folk-Celtic music.His training was shaped at the conservatories of Cádiz (his hometown) and Córdoba, where he completed his Higher Music Education in flute at the CSM "Rafael Orozco" under the guidance of Susana Recio and Wéndela van Swol. He furthered his studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and at the Barenboim-Said Academy of Orchestral Studies in Seville.Alongside his classical training, he developed from an early age a deep interest in the traditional music of the so-called Celtic nations, which led him to specialise in the Irish flute, receiving training and guidance from major references in the field such as Jean-Michel Veillon, Matt Molloy, and Sylvain Barou. This instrument became the focus of his Master's Thesis in Musical Research at the International University of Valencia.As a live performer his main project is the contemporary folk band Deira, and previously Stolen Notes, among others. He maintains an intense concert schedule, performing at some of Europe's most prestigious folk festivals, including the Festival Interceltique de Lorient (French Brittany), the Festival Internacional de Ortigueira, and Celtic Connections in Glasgow. His discography includes four released recordings, and he has accumulated numerous awards at international competitions.He has collaborated both in the studio and live with many artists, with notable highlights including emblematic groups such as Celtas Cortos, Felpeyu, and Corquiéu, as well as being invited as a woodwind flute soloist by the Málaga Symphony Orchestra. Firmly connected to the culture of his homeland, in 2026 he served as an official jury member of the Official Competition of Carnival Groups (COAC) at the Cádiz Carnival.Since 2010, he has combined his artistic career with teaching, holding the position of principal flute professor at the Professional Music Conservatory "Manuel de Falla" in Cádiz.
